Livingston’s DPW reminds residents:

Stay off the roads:  Whenever road conditions are bad, it’s always smart to stay in and avoid traveling.

Safety first:  If you must travel during snowy or slippery conditions, drive carefully and safely.  It’s better to arrive late than to risk an accident.

Clear sidewalks:  If there’s a sidewalk on your property, remember to clear any snow.

Clear hydrants:  In case of a fire emergency, clear out any fire hydrant on or near your property so it can be easily accessed.

Parked cars:  Keep parked cars off the street. Plows can’t do their job when there are cars in the way; the result is narrow roadways and a lot more digging out.

Livingston’s Health Department reminds residents to check on relatives or neighbors who may need assistance. They also remind residents to keep animals inside, and that dog and cat paws can be injured by snow melt.

Have an emergency kit ready:

  • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days
  • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Cell phone charger
