The Livingston Police Department reminds residents to clear sidewalks of snow and ice.

Officers will be enforcing the Ordinance (§ 274-6.) requiring that sidewalks be cleared of ice and snow within 12 hours of daylight following the end of  snowfall.

LPD and the Livingston Fire Department also remind residents to
clear fire hydrants of ice and snow.

In an emergency, seconds count!  In the time it can take firefighters to clear a hydrant of snow and ice, lives can be lost.

Ordinances:

§ 274-6. Duty to remove snow and ice from sidewalks.
It shall be the duty of the owner, occupant or tenant of any lot, parcel of land, or real
property in the Township abutting or bordering on the sidewalks of a public street in the
Township to remove or cause to be removed all snow and ice from the sidewalk area in
front of or bordering his lands, within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has ceased to
fall.
§ 274-12. Violations and penalties.
Unless another penalty is expressly provided herein, any person who violates any
provision of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine not
exceeding $500 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days, or both. A
separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation
occurs or continues.
