How Do I Dispose Of … ?              

Weekly Recycling Pickup: 

Livingston’s recycling collector, Giordano Company, Inc., may arrive as early as 6:00 a.m. to pick up the recycling. If your recycling is not out by then, it may not be collected.  See Livingston’s Recycling Ordinance.

Holiday Pickups

When a holiday falls on your recycling day or earlier in the same week, your recycling will be picked up on the day after your regularly scheduled day.
Refer to the Town Planner Calendar or click Street List:  Find Your Recycling Zone for your scheduled pick-up dates.

Rechargeable Batteries:  If it’s Rechargeable It’s Recyclable

Non-rechargeable batteries: recycle in the blue “Battery Recycling” bins at the Livingston Public Library and the front of the Senior/Community Center.

Light Bulbs:

Standard, Edison-style light bulbs go in the garbage.
Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (the small swirl bulbs): Recycle at any Home Depot store.
Other fluorescent light bulbs & ballasts:  Recycle with Household Hazardous Waste.
Essex County holds free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days.

Recycling Other “Non-Traditional” Items

Metal Recycling Pick-Up:

including refrigerators, air conditioners, metal dehumidifiersbasketball hoops, and emptied helium tanks (click for instructions) — is collected on the last Wednesday of the month by the Township Public Works Department.  The cut-off day to be put on the list for any metal pick-up is 12:00 noon on the Friday before the pick-up date.

To be put on the list for Metal Pick-Up only, you can:

(1) Sign Up On-Line:  Submit a Service Request *  or

(2) E-mail *  or

(3) Call 973-992-5000 ext: #5522 

give your name, address and a brief description of the metal item(s) to be
on the list for pick-up.

* When you make your request in this way, you will automatically receive an e-mail confirmation of your metal recycling pickup.

Note: This is the contact information for METAL Recycling only.  

Electronics (including TVs & rechargeable  batteries) MUST be disposed of at an ELECTRONICS  Recycling Event 

Paper and Commingled items are collected by Giordano Companies (800-216-2250) 


Electronics Recycling Event 

Please note that recycling old electronics is mandatory.
Electronics may not be put out with standard trash or other recycling items.

REMINDER:  Wipe out your data before recycling your computers and smart devices!

The 2017 Electronics Recycling & Paper Shredding Events are for Livingston residents only.
They are held at the Sr./Community Center Parking Lot, 204 Hillside Avenue, 9 AM – 2 PM.
