APRIL IS PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

APRIL IS PUBLIC HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

The Livingston Health Department would like to take this opportunity to announce that April is Public Health Awareness Month. In celebration of Public Health Month, the Nursing Division of the Livingston Health Department will be sponsoring our annual Spring Health Fair on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Senior & Community Center at 204 Hillside Ave, Livingston, New Jersey. We are offering free screenings for Hearing, Vision, Hepatitis B screening, blood pressure, spinal assessment and much more.

Public Health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of the community through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles in conjugation with research and surveillance of diseases and injury prevention. There are many different areas of public health, but it is typically divided into categories of epidemiology, biostatics and health services, environmental, social and behavioral health along with occupational health.

Public Health is on the forefront in prevention and investigating communicable disease while promoting health and wellness. This past year we have seen many outbreaks of childhood diseases, norovirus and Zika, a mosquito- borne virus, which has caused worldwide concerns due its link with birth defects.

At the Livingston Health Department, we serve our community in many different aspects, from birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, social work, licensing and monitoring establishments within the township as part of the New Jersey States Sanitary Code. The Nursing Division investigates and does surveillance of communicable diseases as per New Jersey State Health Code. We conduct school immunization audits. We provide education; free health screenings, vaccines and Health Fairs open to all Livingston residents. We are active members of our town’s EMO (Emergency Management Office).
