Program Supervisor – Community Services: Susan Ridley

Susan loves education! As you can see from the alphabet soup after her name. She has a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapies at Lesley University, MA,  and a MSc in Human Services from Springfield College, MA. She is also a Certified Prevention Specialist, a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner, Recreation Administrator, Activities Director Certified, and a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. In her spare time, she is an artist, specializing in landscapes, seascapes, animals and murals (the bigger the better) as well as learning the art of Raku pottery. Susan lives in Lake Mohawk, Sparta, NJ. Susan supervises the Livingston Youth and Community Services (LYCS) Leaders program which provides leadership, healthy life choices and life skills education to students grades 1-12 in Livingston school district, and the Shining Stars after-school sports and recreational programs for children and adults with special needs in Livingston and surrounding areas.

Adaptive Recreation Coordinator: Jennifer Quirk

Jennifer Quirk, Adaptive Recreation Coordinator, has lived in New Jersey her whole life and moved to Livingston in 1999.  A speech therapist and special education teacher for children with Autism, Jennifer worked with students aged 3-21 for many years, overseeing educational programs, behavioral plans and parent training.  She was also responsible for planning various social and life skill activities in the community with the older children she taught, Jennifer next took a position as a home programmer in the Montville school district, providing educational, social and behavioral programs for young children newly diagnosed with developmental delays. Her professional background applied to her personal life when her youngest child was diagnosed with having special needs.  Advocating for her son, Jennifer began a different journey.  Connecting with other families in the community, Jennifer came across the Shining Stars Programs, where her son is presently enrolled.  Her experiences in the program with other local families and knowing the needs of our children, Jennifer can confidently represent the special needs community from the perspective of a parent and Livingston resident.
She holds a BA in Communication Disorders from William Paterson University and a special education certification from Kean University. In her free time she enjoying training for local races, kickboxing, weight training, scrap-booking and attending her older boys’ various sporting events with her husband and youngest son.  She co-chairs the Media program at her son’s elementary school with two other parents and is involved in overseeing, scheduling, and training 100+ parents.  She is also involved in the creation of the school’s yearbook, as well as volunteering during Nutrition Month.
