FITNESS:

YOGA

Yoga is a system of stretching postures which tone and align the body and help the body absorb the effects of stress to balance and rejuvenate the body and calm the mind. Participants should dress in comfortable clothing. Please bring a yoga mat to each class and a yoga brick(s) if needed. Yoga belts are available if needed.

Level 1 This class is for beginners and people interested in a more gentle class. Emphasis will be on stretching, alignment relaxation.

Level 2 This class is for fit beginners and people interested in an active yoga class. Emphasis will be on stretching, strengthening, toning and relaxation.

Personal Training
Are you looking for motivation to get your exercise program on track? Would you like to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance? Our certified trainers can help you reach your fitness goals by providing you with the motivation, knowledge and support that you need in a safe and effective way.  Participants maybe required to bring their own weights and exercise mat. Prior to assigning a trainer the participant must complete a Personal Training Packet so that your trainer can better understand your goals. (This packet can be obtained upon request by contacting lbranquinho@livingstonnj.org or by calling 973-535-7925 ext. 260)

Barre Above®
This class blends the best of ballet, yoga and pilates.  Focuses on balance, strength and flexibility for all levels of fitness.  It’s safe, effective and efficient workout which challenges the body without risk of incurring injuries from over use.  Bring weights (2-3 lbs.) and small towel.  Grip socks or sneakers required.

Cardio Sculpt
This class is group strength training focusing on improving muscular strength and stability with emphasis on the core. Bring your own weights, 3-5 lbs, and exercise mat.

20/20/20: This is a high energy class filled with 20 minutes of fun cardiovascular exercises followed by 20 minutes of intense muscle conditioning drills, and finishing with 20 minutes of yoga and pilates stretching techniques, including core stabilization. Please bring: towel, water, light weights, (not more than 5 lbs.) and a mat.

Core Sculpting
This half hour class focuses on your overall core conditioning, build strength, gain muscle definition and increase overall stamina in your core and back.

Gluts, Legs and Toning: This class uses weights and your own body weight to focus mostly on a total lower body workout.  Get ready to squat & lunge your way to better buns just in time for summer.  Bring exercise mat and 3-5lbs weights.

STRONG: STRONG by Zumba is a High Intensity Interval Training class using more traditional fitness moves for a more athletic, conditioning-style workout.  You use your own body weight as resistance to achieve muscle definition.  STRONG by Zumba is also characterized by a unique system of progression.  Modifications are provided.  Come get STRONG!

Meditation & Relaxation
Do you ever feel stressed out and that life keeps throwing you a curve ball?  Or, when everything is going well, do you have a hard time keeping your focus and enjoying the present moment? You’re not alone!  Learn tools to; manage stress and anxiety, feel less overwhelmed and agitated, cultivate mindfulness and a deeper sense of purpose, gratitude, kindness and respect.  Classes are open to beginners and experienced practitioners and will include discussion and the practice of a various meditation and relaxation techniques.

Pilates: Pilates is an exercise program designed to increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and improve posture. There is a concentration on core strengthening and stabilization. The breathing techniques help balance the mind-body connection. Please bring towel, water, mat and light weights (no more than 2-3 lbs.).

Shape Up — A total body workout incorporating low impact routines, this class focuses on toning muscles, building strength and improving body flexibility. Bring exercise mat and 2-3lb weights.

Aquacise (Summer Only)
This program features aerobic exercises and a total body workout in the water. In the event of rain, participants should wear sneakers to participate in an indoor aerobic class at Northland Recreation Center.  Water shoes are recommended.

Yogilates
A non-impact combination of Yoga and Pilates. Floor exercises combine dance moves that tone and lift while enhancing balance and agility. Using gentle Yoga postures you also work on improving your flexibility all in this one fusion class.

Adult Tap
Class begins with a warm-up to stretch the muscles of the legs and feet. Students practice a series of basic steps, adding more difficult combinations as they become more proficient. Adult tap dance is for fun and exercise. It builds aerobic fitness as well as muscle control. Tap shoes required.

Inner Strength: This class in non cardio and can be done in bare feet or with socks, combining Pilates and basic core conditioning. Please bring mat and wither a set of 1 or 2 pound weights.

ZUMBA: Come join the fitness sensation that is sweeping the nation! Drawing on Latin dance moves, this fun and energetic dance fitness class is a great way to get in shape and have some fun.

ZUMBA Toning:
Zumba Toning raises the bar! Learn how to use lightweight (1-3lb.) maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all the target zones, including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is the perfect way to sculpt your body naturally while having a total blast. Maracas are available for purchase in class.

Zumba Gold – Beginner/Senior Program
It is an innovative, fun and exciting program. It was designed for the active older adult, the true beginner, and/or people who are not used to exercising, or people who may be limited physically. The main difference between Zumba Gold and Zumba Basic is Zumba Gold is done at a lower intensity, not as fast, but it certainly is as much fun. The same great Latin styles of music and dance are used.

Forever Fit (Senior & Adult Program)
Have fun and move to the music with low impact cardio exercises that help active older adults maintain cardiovascular health, strength, balance and flexibility. Light weights and bands will be used. Please bring a towel, water and a set of light weights (1-2lbs).

Tai Chi Chih (Senior & Adult Program)
This class is for participants with prior Tai Chi Chih experience.  It includes a series of slow and gentle movements based on ancient Far East wellness principles and is not a martial art. Movements are gentle, easy, soft, flowing and fun to do. 19 moves. T’ai Chi Chih® circulates and balances the Chi (energy). Also known as A Movement Meditation. No special equipment or clothing is necessary. We recommend comfortable, flexible shoes or no shoes. This class can be modified for sitting in a chair if necessary. Beginner and Continuing classes available.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (Senior & Adult Program)

People with Arthritis can Exercise using gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion. With the guidance of a certified Arthritis Foundation Instructor, you will learn exercises to maintain muscle strength and increase flexibility. (1-2lbs weights recommended)

Line Dancing (Senior & Adult Program)
No more watching for you! Everyone can learn to line dance. Have fun and exercise while dancing to a variety of great country and popular songs. No partner needed! 

Intro to Ballroom Dancing
A great opportunity to learn a new dance! Introductory beginner lesson for those who want to try out ballroom dancing and for those who want to practice.
